The CQI-27 Special Process: Casting System Assessment, 2nd edition standard was developed by the AIAG Technical Committee in collaboration with OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, and casting suppliers. The goal is to have robust processes that minimize the risk of introducing defects in automotive applications.
The Casting System Assessment can be used to evaluate an organization's ability to meet the requirements in this assessment, as well as customer, regulatory, and organizational requirements.
CQI-27 was developed by the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) and focuses on the evaluation and improvement of metal casting processes in the automotive industry. Similar to other standards in the CQI (Continuous Quality Improvement) chain, CQI-27 helps suppliers in the automotive supply chain ensure that their metal casting processes are highly efficient and comply with the quality requirements of vehicle manufacturers.
Purpose and scope of CQI-27:
1. Purpose of CQI-27
- Quality assurance of metal casting processes: The main objective of CQI-27 is to ensure that metal casting processes (including casting of aluminum, iron, steel and other alloys) in the automotive supply chain are consistently controlled and of high quality.
- Improve efficiency and performance: CQI-27 not only stops at assessment but also encourages suppliers to find ways to improve the performance of the casting process, to reduce waste, increase productivity, and optimize production costs.
- Detect and prevent risks: This standard helps suppliers detect and prevent risks in the metal casting process, to minimize incidents and ensure that the casting products meet the requirements for durability and quality.
- Meet the requirements of OEMs: CQI-27 ensures that suppliers in the supply chain can meet the strict process and quality requirements of OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) in the automotive industry.
- Continuous improvement: One of the important goals of CQI-27 is to promote continuous improvement in the casting process, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of suppliers and improving the quality of final products.
2. Scope of CQI-27
- Applicable to suppliers of metal castings in the automotive industry: CQI-27 applies to all suppliers in the automotive industry supply chain involved in metal casting processes. This includes iron castings, steel castings, aluminum castings, bronze castings, alloy castings, and other types of metal castings.
- Types of metal casting processes: This standard applies to a variety of casting processes such as die casting, sand casting, gravity casting, and continuous casting.
